BEST FREE FONT MANAGER – Windows – Nexus Font

Hy,

Font managers are the best solution to not cripple your windows performance. It will sure do even in windows 10 too if you are installing lot of fonts and forget them there.
So, the simple way is to use a font manager.

The one i use from years now is Nexus Font Manager. Very simple and clean.
As simple as i could use installed folder from windows 7 in windows 10. Lol, not used neither installer or portable version. Used the old installed one.

First of all is free for all, as author says:
This application is free for everyone. You may use in a company

He do have other programs too for windows, nexusFile, nexusFont and nexusImage for Windows or HashPhotos, beyondFoto, nexusMoney, nexusDiary and more for iOS). Check his website at the end of post.

What you can do with it:
- manage installed fonts install / uninstall
- install new fonts
- view detailed font properties
- create folders (with groups) or collections (with sets) with option to tag any font for better filtering
- print multiple or all fonts to pdf for comparison
- export as image (all or one image file for each font)

As using it is very simple.
There are 2 big areas. Left side with Library and right side with list of fonts in selected location from left.
At the top is a menu and quick icons menu. Main menu is self explanable and icons menu is quick print (damn usefull one for comparing fonts), font information and delete.
Then is the dummy text you can replace with yours, and primary font properties (color, size, bold/italic and anti-alias).

First time use will have left side empty, except installed. Here you will be able to watch how many fonts you have installed and you have too many you can move them in other places but still be installed.

For installing a font, In left panel you can make folders, groups and collections. A pop up appears with 3 options: Copy files to the system folder / Leave files where they are and Copy files to the folder below.

As an advice, use second or third option not first one. As i said at the begining, more fonts in windows folder can slow it down.
It is preferable to use a special font folder in another secure location which will have it even if you reinstall windows. The only thing you will encounter at fresh install is the drive letter which could change. Here i changed them at once in configuration files. But this is another topic, to not be too much here.

I use only folders and groups (which are kind of subfolders if you have different projects with fonts for the same client) as you can see in picture here.
Collections can be used also. You can use tags for every font and have a better management for filtering and sorting instantly.

Uninstalling is also simple. A pop up with 3 options: Uninstall and Delete Font files / Leave files where they are or Uninstall and Backup Font files (with location).

And here you go clean to use and remove fonts at your wish without trouble. I haven’t got any problem with it till now so for me worked well.

Hope it helps you too.
